Why Stewed Apples?

Stewed apples are a great recipe for early morning nourishment. This tasty recipe stimulates timely bowel movements as well as digestion and metabolism for excellent quality and quantity of Ojas. Since Ojas is the body’s master coordinator and the vehicle through which consciousness enters the physiology, it is vital for quality of life and awareness. While raw apples can sometimes aggravate Vata, this stewed apples recipe is helpful in balancing Vata as well as Pitta, without aggravating Kapha.

Ingredients: (recipe for one serving)

1 whole, fresh, sweet apple, cored and peeled

5 whole cloves

¼ cup purified water

Directions:

Peel and dice apple into small pieces.

Add cloves, apples and water in a covered pot.

Stew apples in ¼ cup of water over medium heat until mushy consistency (usually takes about 30 minutes).

Remove cloves and discard before serving.

Let stand away from heat for 5 minutes, to cool a little.

Helpful Tip:

It is best if you sip a cup of warm water with your meal in the morning. This dish is not recommended for nighttime.

Always eat as a breakfast dish first thing in the morning, as early as possible.
