Poppy Seed Chutney

Poppy Seed Chutney

Why Poppy Seed Chutney?

This tasty recipe is a powerful aid to sleep by helping to balance both Pitta and Vata. It helps pacify Vata, especially in the mind (Prana). It helps pacify Pitta in the heart and mind (Sadhaka). These are the two doshas most likely to interfere with good quality sleep.

Eat Poppy Seed Chutney at night, less than one hour before bed.

1 teaspoon white poppy seeds

1 teaspoon coconut powder (fresh grated is best)

Pinch of cumin

Pinch of turmeric

Small amount of Ghee (clarified butter)

Salt to taste

Mix white poppy seeds with coconut powder.

Add small amounts of water while mixing until it forms a thick paste.

Melt Ghee in a frying pan, until it becomes clear (cloudiness is gone).

Add turmeric and cumin to Ghee, mix well. Remove immediately from heat. Simmer off heat until color and aroma change.

Add Ghee and spices to poppy seed mixture, mix well, let stand 5 minutes

Add a little salt to taste.

Helpful Tip:

The clarity of the Ghee is important in the cooking. When it is clear, this indicates that the water has been removed and the heat is just right for bringing out all the benefits of the herbs.
